Hawks’ Crawford gets a day to rest

Corey Crawford is going to have a heavy workload for the Blackhawks this season, so there are days he will be allowed to sit out practice.

Monday was one of those days as Hawks coach Joel Quenneville gave his No. 1 goalie an extra day off to rest a minor lower-body injury after playing in back-to-back games over the weekend.

“We just give him an extra day maintenance-wise, but he’s all set,” Quenneville told reporters. “It’s just a lower- body (injury), and we just wanted to give him a rest after back-to-back games.”

Crawford had a groin issue the last week of training camp that also kept him off the ice for one practice, but he played two days later.

The Hawks don’t play again until Thursday against Winnipeg at the United Center, a game Crawford likely will start.

Crawford stopped 51 of 54 shots in the games against Dallas, deserving a better fate in Friday’s 2-1 loss.

Tip-ins:Ben Smith (concussion) practiced Monday but still hasn#146;t been cleared for contact. #133; Viktor Stalberg (knee) skated by himself and might return to practice either Tuesday or Wednesday. #133;Daniel Carcillo, who can return from his two-game suspension Thursday, skated at left wing with Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa on Monday.
