Crystal Lake man critical after car strikes pedestrian in Arlington Hgts.

A 22-year-old Crystal Lake man remains in critical condition Saturday after being struck by a car in Arlington Heights during the early morning hours.

The pedestrian reportedly was walking in the eastbound lanes of the frontage portion of Palatine Road when he was struck by a white 2012 Kia Soul. The impact propelled the pedestrian more than 75 feet forward in to the eastbound express lanes.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were not being released until after the family of the pedestrian has been notified, said Sgt. Mike Kearney.

Arlington Heights police and fire departments responded to a 911 call at 3:39 a.m. made by the driver, a Palatine resident. The accident happened on the 400 block of West Palatine Road, according to a police news release.

Arlington Heights paramedics transported the pedestrian to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was in the surgical intensive care unit.

The driver, a 37-year-old man, was not charged and was later treated and released from Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Kia was heading east on the frontage portion of Palatine Road from Kennicott Boulevard. The driver said he left his Palatine home and was on his way to work when the accident happened, the statement said.

There is no designated pedestrian cross walk or overhead street lamp in the immediate area, police said.

The use of alcohol by the driver has been ruled out. An investigation continues, Kearney said.

Any one who may have witnessed the crash can contact the Arlington Heights police at (847) 368-5300.
