Man injured by stone cutter at Lakemoor company

A 34-year-old man was injured after being impaled by a stone cutting drill bit while working at a Lakemoor stone company, officials say.

The unidentified man was working on the machine used to cut countertops out of granite when the drill bit somehow became embedded in his back, officials from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said.

He was conscious and alert when he was rescued in the 400 block of Wegner Road about 9 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

He was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where the drill bit was removed, officials said.

His condition was unknown Friday.
