Spellman's Scorecard: It's all-hockey (almost)

The list:Big sandwich?Check.Lou Angotti jersey?Check.New guys who will check?Check.OK, good:Drop. That. Puck.Reason to believe:All you need to know about this season is that the Captain says he's never been more excited to play hockey in a long time.Boy, when the always-motivated Jonathan Toews is feeling it, you gotta think the rest of the league is in big trouble. The name game:A lot of new faces on the roster this season means a lot of new nicknames to remember. Nicknames like Jammer (Jamal Mayers), Bruno (Andrew Brunette) and my favorite, Rusty (Rostislav Olesz).Rusty?Holy Political Incorrectness Batman! But the one nickname everyone is going to remember and talk about has to be Daniel Carcillo's, which is ... Car Bomb. You just know Hawks officials cringes every time they hear that name mentioned.Wait #8230; what?Robin Ventura?Really?House cleaning:What's the first thing Ventura will remove from the manager's office?I'm guessing it'll be the Kenny Williams voodoo doll. And now back to hockey:The best thing about the Atlanta franchise moving to Winnipeg is another chance to hear O Canada. A great song.Yeah, I know: if you like it so much why don't you just move to Canada?Whatever.BTW:The Jets will be in town next week.Kane-do attitude:The guess here is that one of the more pleasant surprises this season will be the all-around play of Patrick Kane #8212; whether it's at center or wing. And yes, that includes playing defense.A cause for concern:Dave Bolland's back and when it actually will be back to normal, or as close to normal as he and the doctors can get.The guy is too important to miss too much time. Again. Can't wait:To hear Jimmy West on the call of Blackhawks games this year on Channel 9.But seriously:How lucky are Hawks fans to have the television and radio broadcast teams they currently have? One word:Very.Hitting their marks:Yeah, the red carpet treatment outside the United Center prior to Saturday's home opener will be a little hokey, but how cool is it for a young fan to get a low-to-medium high-five from one of their heroes? In this corner:John Scott vs. Daniel Carcillo probably wouldn't be much of a fight, but I bet it would be beyond entertaining. Why we like hockey:#8220;This is a childhood dream and I'm fortunate to be playing.#8221;#8212; Brandon Pirri, on getting to play in the season opener Friday night in Dallas.#376; Mike Spellman's Scorecard column appears each Friday in the Daily Herald.
