David Harris spurns congressional run, to run again for state House

State Rep. David Harris will seek re-election to a seat representing Illinois' 53rd District, the Arlington Heights Republican announced this week.

Harris, who represents the 66th House District, had been considering a bid for Congress in the newly drawn 8th District, but chose instead to make another run for the state legislature.

“There is a lot of work to be done to put the state of Illinois on sound financial footing,” said Harris, adding that his position as Republican spokesman for the House Revenue & Finance Committee allows him to have meaningful impact on budget issues.

Staying close to his family and working with leaders at the local level also factored in his decision, he said.

The 53rd District in which Harris will run also is a newly drawn district. It encompasses most of Arlington Heights, about half of both Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights, and a small part of Des Plaines.
