Bring your pooch to Scarecrow Fest’s Canine Corner

Dogs, dog treats, dog toys and specialty dog stores all seem to be the rage, and the St. Charles Scarecrow Festival is expanding on puppy passion with a number of fun offerings.

Come with or without your dog and spend time at the Canine Corner on First Street, where you will find entertainment, activities for kids, pet-friendly vendors, and animal rescue groups and shelters.

Molly, the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau pet-specialist, will make an appearance at this year#146;s Canine Corner. This Yorkiepoo (a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a small poodle) is owned by Jenny O#146;Brien of the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau.

#147;I do plan to find time to get Molly to the Canine Corner, most definitely to the costume contest, sponsored by PETCO at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Look for the scarecrow,#148; O#146;Brien said.

#147;A few years ago, after having traveled a lot for both business and leisure, I realized how important it was to be able to travel with my dog, due to the costs of boarding, etc. This led me to create a pet friendly St. Charles page, and I knew making a mascot for this would make it more fun for travelers when researching pet-friendly destinations,#148; said O#146;Brien, referring to the site, visitstcharles.com/molly.cfm.

In addition to providing travel tips for pet owners, Molly was instrumental in the creation of a 2010 Canine Corner activity on the First Street grassy area, adjacent to the Fox River#146;s west bank.
