Vernon Hills woman gets probation in drug dealer robbery
A Vernon Hills woman was placed on probation for 18 months Tuesday after she admitted her role in the robbery of a drug dealer.
Kimberly Morris, 25, pleaded guilty to theft during a hearing before Lake County Circuit Judge Fred Foreman.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ari Fisz said Morris, of the 400 block of Fernwood Court in Vernon Hills, called a 21-year-old Mundelein man on July 16 and asked him to sell her some marijuana.
The man agreed to meet Morris at a park at 12:30 a.m. to complete the transaction, but he was confronted by Jlee Grant, 28, of the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive in Mundelein.
Grant demanded the marijuana, which weighed a little less than an ounce, and also took $40 in cash from the man.
The victim knew both Morris and Grant, identified them to police and the couple was arrested at Grant’s apartment about three hours after the crime.
Grant pleaded guilty to robbery on Sept. 20 and was sentenced to a year in jail.
Foreman also ordered Morris to complete 100 hours of public service during her probation, and said she would have to complete any counseling program her probation officer recommended.
Both could have faced up to seven years in prison if convicted after a trial.
