Glenbard West's Odom day-to-day

As bad as he may have looked Saturday afternoon, Justice Odom felt much better on Tuesday.

According to Glenbard West football coach Chad Hetlet, his senior quarterback suffered a sprained left knee during Saturday's 51-13 West Suburban Silver victory over Proviso West.

While Hetlet said he "wouldn't necessarily anticipate" Odom playing Friday at Addison Trail in a showdown between unbeaten teams, Odom already has begun rehabbing the knee and is expected back sooner rather than later.

Considering the discouraging sight on Saturday of Odom walking with crutches, Tuesday's MRI report was good news for the Hilltoppers, who are top-ranked in The Associated Press Class 7A poll.

"He's in real good spirits," Hetlet said. "He's a hard worker, and he's already made some real strides. It's not going to be a long-term thing. It's more of a day-to-day thing."

Odom, a first-year varsity starter at quarterback, has completed 32 of 55 passes for 490 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. He's also rushed for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Hilltoppers junior Henry Haeffner will get the start if Odom doesn't play on Friday. Unbeaten at the freshman, sophomore and junior varsity levels, Haeffner has played in every game this season except the opener against Wheaton Warrenville South.

"I'd love to have (Odom) back for this Friday, but Henry knows the offense inside and out," Hetlet said. "It doesn't really hurt us playbook-wise because he's a real smart kid. If we block and run like we're capable of, we'll be fine."
