Deadline coming to nominate Chicago Christmas tree

Time is running out to nominate that giant tree in your yard as Chicago's official Christmas tree.

Friday is the deadline and nominations can be submitted via email or regular mail.

But not just any tree will do.

First, the tree must be at least 55 feet or taller. Spruce and fir trees are preferred. And, don't even think about entering a pine tree because they're ineligible.

Send in three photos of the tree, which must be located within 100 miles of Chicago's downtown.

Chicagoans will vote on the winning tree and the winner will be announced in late October.

The winning tree will be admired by visitors to Chicago's Daley Plaza from Nov. 23 until the holiday season ends in January.
