Cantigny Golf Academy welcomes new club fitter, builder

The Cantigny Golf Academy has added Everett J. Lockenvitz to its professional staff to lead the academy’s custom club-fitting operation, serving as master club fitter and master club builder.

Lockenvitz founded EJL Custom Golf Clubs Inc., a business he owned and operated for 15 years. EJL was recognized among the top 10 custom fitting companies in the United States, and Lockenvitz himself is a Golf Digest Top 100 Club Fitter.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Everett on board,” said Connie DeMattia, Cantigny Golf director of instruction. “His knowledge and expertise in club fitting is unmatched throughout the country.”

DeMattia also noted that the Cantigny Golf Academy aspires to be the Chicago region’s premier club-fitting center.

“With Everett on staff, we’ve taken a major step toward achieving our goal,” he said.

Lockenvitz joins club-fitting specialist Pat Hickey at the academy, where clients benefit from the latest technology and all major equipment brands including TaylorMade, Titleist, Nike and Mizuno.

Great care is taken to ensure that customers are fitted to the correct shaft, grip, loft, lie angle and club manufacturer.

“We fit irons, woods, hybrids and wedges,” Lockenvitz said. “That alone is not unique, but I do believe the service level here at Cantigny is exceptional. We identify a golfer’s special needs and then make the necessary adjustments during the club fitting to accommodate them. Experience means a lot in this business. A resident of Oak Brook, Lockenvitz attended the University of Illinois and DePaul University before a 26-year career in the banking industry. He founded EJL Custom Golf Clubs in 1995.
