Lake Arlington path as dangerous as ever

The path around Lake Arlington has become a dangerous obstacle course. No longer is it safe for families, young children, babies in strollers or seniors to simply walk around the lake. Between the hours of 7-8 p.m. especially, the path becomes a free for all for speeding rollerbladers and cyclists who plow right through groups of walkers including small children and baby strollers at terrifying speeds. I have personally witnessed collisions with injuries.

There are plenty of rules posted at intervals including the “8 mph” rule, but what good are the rules when there is no one there to enforce them?

Please send some help soon before we see a fatality.

I have contacted the park district and was told to report these incidences to the boathouse. There are some teens working in the boathouse. Not sure how they can halt these speed freaks. Nothing has been done since I last contacted the park district on Aug. 19.

This is my second letter to you. Perhaps you can post it in your paper and we can get some public input toward a solution to this problem. The residents of Arlington Heights deserve better, give our families a safe place to walk on summer evenings.
