Lake Villa woman charged in fatal Ingleside motorcycle crash

A woman whose vehicle struck and killed a motorcyclist two weeks ago in Ingleside is charged with being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, officials said.

Rebecca R. Wells, 33, of the 25000 of W. Arcade Drive in Lake Villa, has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs that caused a death, and an additional two counts of driving under the influence of drugs that caused great bodily harm. The charges were approved by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office.

Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Thompson said Wells was arrested at her home Monday and taken to Lake County jail. She is held on a $250,000 bond, of which she must post 10 percent.

The fatal crash occurred Aug. 27 at 6:34 p.m. when Wells turned her vehicle in front of 29-year-old Justin McBride of Lake Villa, while he was heading east on Route 59, Thompson said.

McBride, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed in the crash at Wilson Road.

His 9-year-old daughter, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was thrown to the ground. The girl was wearing a helmet, Thompson said, and is expected to make a full recovery.

She was treated at Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition, and later airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General, Thompson said. Her current condition is unknown.

Thompson said the case is under review, and charges against Wells could be upgraded to reckless homicide or additional charges could be approved later date.
