Former library trustee receives Citation Award

Jacqueline C. Hinaber, former trustee at the Mount Prospect Public Library, is the recipient of the 2011 Illinois Library Association Trustee Citation Award. This award is given to a public library trustee for achievement, leadership, and service to libraries. The award is sponsored by Architectural Resource Corporation.

Having held each of the officer positions, including eight years as president, during her 24 years on the Mount Prospect Public Library Board of Trustees, Jacqueline C. Hinaber was actively involved with developing long range plans for service development, library funding issues, building expansion, acting as a strong advocate for the library within the Mount Prospect community, and lifting the morale of library staff through personal encouragement and support. She was also one of the founding members of an intergovernmental after-hours dinner meeting for local elected board members in order to encourage collaboration and positive relationships.

She served for six years on the board of the North Suburban Library System and held the leadership positions of Secretary, Vice-President, and President during a time of intensive development of creative and innovative programs and services that continue to exist and operate beyond the recent downsizing and mergers of Illinois library systems. During this time, she became active in library advocacy in the halls of government in both Springfield and Washington D.C. She served on the ILA Public Policy Committee and actively participated in state and national legislative days informing elected officials of the concerns and issues of libraries encouraging their support at every opportunity. She was so effective with advocacy that she was once recognized as the NSLS Advocate of the Year.

In addition, she has been an experienced and sought-after community activist serving in volunteer and leadership roles with Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS), River Trails School District 26, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, Lattof YMCA, and other local organizations.

The Trustee Citation will be presented at the Illinois Library Association's Annual Conference Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.
