Naperville lights will symbolize Twin Towers

For the next few nights, two World War II-era searchlights will send beams of light into the Naperville sky.

The beams are meant to represent the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers that fell during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The lights, placed behind the city’s municipal center at 400 S. Eagle St., were turned on Thursday night and will shine from dusk to 11 p.m. through Saturday.

“We’re putting those lights up, for the first time, so their glowing will remind us it’s time again to memorialize what happened 10 years ago,” Mayor George Pradel said Thursday. “Naperville is on top of the commemoration of 9/11.”

The city’s Exchange Club also will sponsor a remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Sept. 11/Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial behind the municipal center, along the Riverwalk.
