Butterfield Road project means overnight shutdowns at Rt. 59

A small stretch of Route 59 will be shut down for several hours on two consecutive nights next week when construction crews replace a storm sewer as part of an ongoing project to widen Butterfield Road.

The closures, just south of Butterfile Road in Warrenville, will begin at 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; the road will reopen at 5 a.m. the following day.

Traffic will be diverted with all vehicles detoured to Ferry and Eola roads.

The closures are part of a $52.6 million project to widen six miles of Butterfield Road between Route 59 in Warrenville and Naperville Road in Wheaton. It will convert the stretch into a four-lane divided highway with a 30-foot grass median.

Also, all major intersections along the busy highway will receive traffic signal upgrades. The project began in May and is expected to last until November 2012. The Illinois Department of Transportation will pay for most of the work.
