Barrington home-schoolers donate to Bright Hope
Members of the Barrington Area Home Schoolers group presented a donation of $4,891 from its fundraising effort to C.H. Dyer, president of Bright Hope.
The group held its seventh annual Kids Used Toy Sale from June 15-17 in Crystal Lake. Parents and children collected and donated toys, selling them through a garage sale, to benefit a school-feeding project in Haiti through a program at Bright Hope, a global missions organization.
Last year, the home-schoolers sponsored Mayaya, a Haitian school. Their efforts raised enough money to feed and educate the underprivileged children for a year. This encouraged them to continue the toy sale again this year.
Reaching to meet this year’s fundraising goal, the group organized “The Backyard Girls Club.” Moms and daughters invited girls from ages 5-10 to attend a three-day outing. For $5 per girl, they were able to play games, do crafts and enjoy fellowship together. The themes of each day’s event were Hawaiian, Crazy Sports and Carnival. The Backyard Girls Club raised $356 to add to the Toy Sale funds.
“Selfless and caring people like the Barrington Area Home Schoolers show their love for the extreme poor. They are a light to our organization and bless others in Haiti,” said C.H. Dyer, president of Bright Hope.
Grass-roots fundraising events like these support the work of Bright Hope in nine countries around the world. Programs benefit the extreme poor — those living on less than $1 a day.
