Mt. Prospect to mark Sept. 11 with ceremony
Ten years after the events of Sept. 11, 2001, citizens of Mount Prospect will come together in a commemoration ceremony to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives on that day.
The village of Mount Prospect will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. on the Village Green at village hall, 50 S. Emerson St.
The program will include remarks from Mayor Irvana Wilks, state Rep. David Harris, Fire Chief John Malcolm and a representative of the police department. Police/Fire Chaplain Pastor Russ Bechtold of the Northwest Assembly of God Church will give the invocation and the Prospect High School Honors Choir will perform the song "In Remembrance" by Jeffery L Ames.
At noon, the village will participate in, “Stop and Remember,” which calls on individuals to cease all regular activity for one minute, as bells and sirens right out, taking a minute to honor the victims of Sept. 11.
The village will conduct a bell ceremony at that time, and will sound sirens for one minute. Businesses, houses of worship, railways and others are called on to ring bells and sound sirens as we observe this Moment of Remembrance.
