No name yet for Schaumburg baseball team

The name of Schaumburg’s new baseball team will not be announced during the village’s Septemberfest celebration over Labor Day weekend as initially scheduled, due to a recent change of ownership.

The closing of the sale from Joliet Slammers owner Alan Oremus’ organization to that of Gary Southshore Railcats owner Patrick Salvi was finalized Wednesday, Schaumburg Village Manager Ken Fritz said.

But the timing of the sale prevented Salvi’s group from making all the necessary preparations for a name announcement so quickly, Fritz added.

Nevertheless, the baseball team will still be staffing a booth at Septemberfest.
