Boy trapped under car rescued in Schaumburg

A five-year-old boy who was trapped underneath a moving car and rescued by Schaumburg firefighters Saturday night is doing “remarkably well,” officials said.

The boy and his brother were playing on the sidewalk on Salem Court at Salem Drive when the incident occurred a little before 7 p.m. Saturday night. A woman was backing her car out, failed to notice the brothers and rolled over the 5-year-old, dragging him to the street, Schaumburg Fire Capt. Mark Harper said,

The boy’s brother screamed at the woman to stop and firefighters were called to the scene at 7:03 p.m., according to Harper. The boy was trapped between the car’s exhaust system and the road,

Using their hydraulic Jaws of Life system, the firefighters were able to quickly get the boy out from under the car.

“Fortunately the car was just started so it was cold,” Harper said. “We had him out within a matter of minutes. It was a real quick rescue.”

The boy was transported to Alexian Brothers Hospital were paramedics confirmed that he is doing well.
