Currently two openings on W. Chicago commissions

West Chicago, Illinois: August 26, 2011 – The City of West Chicago invites residents to consider making a difference for the environment or the arts in the community through public service as a volunteer on either the Environmental or Cultural Arts Commission. There are currently two vacancies in both Commissions.

The charge of the Environmental Commission is to research, discuss and recommend to City Council various environmental programs and policies that would facilitate the protection and improvement of the environment. Furthermore, its mission relates to the efficient management of natural resources, promotion of a sustainable community, and enhancement of the aesthetic appearance of the City. This Commission meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Duties of the Cultural Arts Commission include enriching the lives of all West Chicago residents through the support of cultural arts activities; sponsoring art shows, special events and workshops and maintaining a local artist network. Meetings are held the 1st Thursday of the month at 7 p.m., at Gallery 200, 200 Main St.

Appointments for both commissions are typically reserved for residents and are made by the Mayor, with the consent of the City Council, and based on experience and interest.

Those interested will find an application form for Boards and Commissions, which should be returned to the Office of the Mayor, 475 Main St., West Chicago, IL 60185, at www.westchicago.org under Forms. For questions, please contact Valeria Lopez at (630) 293-2200, ext. 170.
