Girls celebrate 100 years of Scouting with festival

To jump-start local celebrations commemorating the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary in March 2012, members of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana will host a fall festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. The event features activities for girls ages 5 to 17.

Hosted by volunteers in the Indian Hills and Wheaton Prairie Service Units, the event is open to current Girl Scouts and volunteers from the Wheaton, Winfield and Warrenville areas.

It also is an opportunity for girls who are not members and their families to sign up as Girl Scouts for the coming anniversary year by filling out a registration form on-site and paying the national Girl Scout annual membership of $12.

Activities will include making recycled paper, watching a play about bullying, scrapbooking, talking on ham radios and tackling an obstacle course.
