What a year!

The year 1991 was key for music; it's when a new generation of smart, passionate bands broke into the mainstream and redefined pop music. Twenty years later, fans will get a chance to relive that era with the release of “1991: The Year That Punk Broke,” on DVD next month. The film follows art-punk band Sonic Youth on tour, and it features footage from Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr. and other key bands of the time. The DVD comes out on Sept. 6 from Universal Music.
