Barrington Hills man charged with escape from hospital

A Barrington Hills man stopped for a traffic violation and in need of medical treatment faces felony charges after he concocted an elaborate ruse to flee the hospital, authorities say.

Aaron Campbell, 27, who lives on Tricia Lane, was pulled over at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by Elk Grove Village police who discovered the man was driving on a revoked license and had warrants for his arrest, including a charge of violating terms of his prison parole for an earlier conviction of possession of a controlled substance.

Police took Campbell to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for treatment of some old wounds on his arms.

While at the hospital, Campbell had a woman bring him a change of clothes, the prosecutor said. Campbell escaped after telling staff members that he was his brother and that the man police wanted was vomiting in a bathroom, the prosecutor said.

Campbell was arrested later at his father's home in Lombard. He is to appear at 9 a.m., Sept. 13, in Rolling Meadows courtroom 108 to face the new felony charge of fleeing and eluding police.
