VH’s Dickman off to winning start

With his grandfather, longtime Deerfield coach Fred Dickman, on hand, Vernon Hills junior Connor Dickman got his golf season off to a great start Monday.

Dickman shot a 79 in a season-opening tournament at Deerfield Golf Club.

On Tuesday, Dickman played even better and so did his teammates.

Vernon Hills carded a school-record 295 to win the Glenbard North tournament at Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights.

Juniors Eric Swanson and Chris Edwards fired matching 2-over-par 72s to lead Vernon Hills. Senior Jake Zoll, whose 78 led the Cougars on Monday, shot a 75, while Dickman had a 76. Vernon Hills also counted junior Jamie Roussel’s 78 and senior Alex Leigeber’s 80.

“We played amazingly,” Cougars coach Shawn Healey said.

Vernon Hills had opened its season with a 321 at Deerfield.
