Elburn may loosen Sunday liquor law

Patrons hoping to enjoy a beer at Elburn taverns while watching NFL pregame television shows this fall may have something to cheer about.

The Elburn village board will vote Monday to allow sales an hour earlier on Sundays.

If the law is changed, taverns and stores could sell liquor starting at 11 a.m.

It is doing so after a request by the owner of Knuckleheads Tavern.

The board, meeting as a committee of the whole July 25, unanimously recommended the change.

That's unlike last year, when a proposal failed 3-3. Village President Dave Anderson, who normally would vote to break a tie, had abstained from the discussion and the vote, saying he had a conflict of interest.

“That hour isn't going to make much of a difference,” Anderson said.

And in the last year, the village has granted several variances for special events, such as charity motorcycle rides that originate in Elburn.

The board meets at 7 p.m. at the village hall, 301 E. North St.
