Schaumburg Rotary awards $4,000 in vocational scholarships

The Rotary Club of Schaumburg A.M. awarded $4,000 in vocational scholarships to three Twp. High School District 211 graduates who intend to study nursing, cosmetology and IT systems support and administration.

Rotary's scholarship program is designed to provide educational assistance to full-time students who are preparing for vocational careers that require less than a four year degree (Associated Degree, Diploma or Certificate) at an accredited school.

Jeff Winkenwerder, club vocational service director, along with committee members Gary Bublitz, Karen Maczka-Bishop and Greg Ring reviewed candidate applications, conducted personal interviews and selected scholarship recipients. Winkenwerder also participated in the District 6440 Vocational Scholarship Committee interviews where winners of a limited number of $1,500 scholarships were selected from a pool of applicants sponsored by individual clubs in the District.

Sara Brooks, a Hoffman Estates High School graduate, plans to pursue a nursing career at St. Louis University in Missouri. Upon completion of her studies, Sara wants to return to the community and work locally in the Alexian Brothers Health System.

Melyssa Eusse, a Conant High School graduate, will study cosmetology at Empire Beauty School in Arlington Heights.

Austin Verlinden will pursue career training in the field of computer and network support at Palatine's Harper College and is a recent graduate of Schaumburg High School.

Both Brooks and Eusse advanced to the District scholarship competition where each won individual awards at that level.

Schaumburg AM Rotary meets Wednesday morning at 7:00 am at the Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates. For more information about vocational scholarships contact Jeff Winkenwerder at (740) 707-6784 or visit www.schaumburgamrotary.org.
