Kids can explore water with naturalist

Citizens for Conservation presents “Up a Creek with CFC,” a Leave No Child Inside class, from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Join in a fun-filled afternoon with seining expert Tom Vanderpoel. Be prepared to get wet and muddy.

Meet at CFC headquarters, 459 W. Route 22, Lake Barrington, the white farmhouse with a silo across from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital between Route 59 and Kelsey Road.

We will drive to a local site and use seining nets to see what is in the water — frogs, fish, mussels, larvae.

Dress for the weather. Water shoes/sandals/boots or shoes are required. Apply sun block or insect spray at home, bring your own drinking water.

Class is open to children ages 6 and older. Caregivers are required to attend. The cost is $5 per child; families with multiple children pay $5 for the first child and $1 for each additional child. Make checks payable to Citizens for Conservation.

The class size is limited and will fill quickly so register early. Completed registration forms are due Aug. 13. Forms can be found at www.citizensforconservation.org. Call CFC at (847) 382-7283 with questions.
