Open house at Wheeling airport features vintage war planes
The Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling will conduct an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today featuring vintage airplanes, food, exhibits and family entertainment.
The Collings Foundation will display World War II aircraft from its collection of war birds: the B-17, B-24 and P-51 aircraft. The planes arrived Friday and will be available for first-come, first-serve tours for a nominal fee beginning 10 a.m. each day until their departure noon Monday. People can book flights on the historic aircraft at collingsfoundation.org.
Today's open house exhibitors include the Civil Air Patrol, CEA flight schools and Wheeling-Prospect Heights Chamber of Commerce & Industry businesses. Aviation experts from Windy City Flyers, Boraam Aviation and Flight World will display aircraft and flight instructors will talk about how to become a pilot.
