Medal of Honor winners to visit Barrington High School

Barrington High School, through the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, will be welcoming two medal recipients at 11 a.m. Friday as part of an event to highlight the foundation’s efforts to promote qualities of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.

Former U.S. Army Cpl. Rodolfo Hernandez and former Navy Petty Officer Michael Thornton, who received the nation’s highest honor for their service in the Korean and Vietnam wars, respectively, will highlight the event, which is free and open to the public. Students will be invited to ask questions after the presentation.

The event takes place in the auditorium of the high school, 616 W. Main St., in Barrington.

The award recipients also will be attending the “In the Company of Heroes” dinner and gala at the Sanfilippo Mansion in Barrington Hills on Friday evening, and Arlington Park for Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, July 23.
