Blaze ravages Lake Barrington home

A large house fire burned for nearly two hours Tuesday night in Lake Barrington, significantly damaging the vacant home, officials said.

The two-story home on the 23300 block of Crestview Lane, which was undergoing renovations, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 8:40 p.m., said Lake County sheriff’s Lt. John Crilly.

Authorities said the box-alarm fire was nearly out as 10:15 p.m., but firefighters remained at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze.

Witnesses said they saw contractors leave bags on the front porch of the home, and a boy on a bike spotted the porch on fire shortly after, Crilly said.

Neighboring departments who assisted Barrington firefighters were being released from the scene about 10:30 p.m., according to fire officials.

Early reports indicated no one was injured in the fire.
