Slice of pizza fundraiser to help veterans

From giving free individual pizzas to anyone showing a valid military ID to hosting charity events to help homeless veterans, Ye Olde Town Inn owner and former U. S. Marine Tod Curtis continues to use his restaurant, located at 18 W. Busse Ave. in downtown Mount Prospect, to engage his patrons and the public in supporting our country's retired and active military personnel.

Every day up to and including Aug. 17, Curtis will be donating 10 percent of all Ye Olde Town Inn pizza sales to Deerfield, Ill.-based United Relief Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) humanitarian aid organization.

The pizza proceeds donation will be used to support the United Relief Foundation's Project Restoring Hope efforts to supply the essential, ongoing needs that aid homeless veterans' reintegration into society and provide the long term, positive life changing opportunities for veterans that comes from home ownership.

"Since I'm always encouraging others to support our veterans and active military, and being a Marine, I feel an additional obligation to do as much as I can when I can," commented Tod Curtis. "I continue to support the United Relief Foundation because I see my contributions making tangible, life-changing differences like veterans in need owning their own homes."

Along with enjoying Ye Olde Town Inn's crispy, pan and stuffed pizzas at everyday half price, dine-in and take-out patrons will have a rewarding feeling knowing that 10 percent of the full price of their pizza purchase will be donated to help veterans in need.

In addition, the musical group Brass from the Past is planning a benefit performance on Wednesday, Aug. 17, similar to the charity concert they had for the United Relief Foundation held at the Ye Olde Town Inn earlier this year (February 2011).

Based on the January 2011 National Alliance to End Homelessness State of Homelessness report, each night 15 percent of Illinois homeless are veterans and while circumstantial factors vary, homelessness occurs when people or households are unable to acquire and/or maintain housing they can afford. Adding, the main reason behind this inability to and/or maintain housing is the scarcity of affordable housing.

Currently, the United Relief Foundation is completing its Project Restoring Hope House 348 and acquiring additional houses which will eventually become homes for veterans, and their families.

The United Relief Foundation was organized in 2006, to provide compassion, comfort and care to ease human suffering anywhere within the United States and for information regarding the United Relief Foundation, to volunteer your time or make a donation, call (847) 580-4250 or visit www.UnitedReliefFoundation.org.
