Let the GOP deal with a default
Mr. President, unfortunately your blind faith in dealing with the opposing party in the House and Senate has cost the American public the chance for a meaningful economic recovery.
Warren Buffett said that to drive the economy we should be taxing the very rich who have increased their wealth more than seven times it was just five years ago. If one of the riches men in the world says tax the wealthy, I would be listening to him!
You see, Mr. President, the deal you thought you were making by extending the Bush tax cuts and getting your budget passed was really just a sham. Now they will hold you and the American public hostage again to get something to save shutting down the government over the debt ceiling. Do not let them touch the benefits to the elderly, Social Security or Medicare.
The irony is where are the jobs that the Republicans said would be developed by extending the Bush tax cuts? Unemployment is back up to 9.1 percent, and the millionaires got a $100,000 pay increase this year. Food and energy prices are stifling the recovery by reducing discretionary spending. We cannot consume what is being produced if ordinary people do not have the money to spend. That is what drives the economy, Consumption.
Now, Mr. President, since the only way you can be defeated in 2012 is a failure on your part to get the economy and job creation right, you must know there will be no support from Big Business. I urge you to put the onus on the opposition. Let the country default on the debt, and let the Republicans feel the heat for letting it happen. The American public cannot survive another economic recessionary dip until the 2012 election has come and gone.
