Streamwood man charged with intent to deliver cocaine

A Streamwood teenager with no criminal background has been charged with intent to deliver a controlled substance in conjunction with a narcotics investigation by the Streamwood Police Department.

Police picked up Matthew Castino, 19, at a parking lot in the 1000 block of south Sutton Road at about 9:30 p.m. Friday following a transaction with an undercover officer, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jerome Allen during Castino’s bond hearing Saturday in Rolling Meadows.

Cook County Judge Anthony Iosco set bail at $15,000 for Castino who authorities suggest did not actually engage in the transaction with the undercover officer.

Another man arranged to sell 19.3 grams of cocaine to the undercover officer for $700, Allen said. That man instructed Castino to give him the drugs, which the man handed over to the undercover officer, Allen said.

Castino later told police that the other man intended to sell or trade the cocaine, Allen said. There was no information on whether the other man has been charged.

If convicted of the Class X felony, Castino could face six to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Monday, July 11.
