St. Charles drill teams raise money for cancer society

Members of the St. Charles North and St. Charles East High School drill teams present a check to the American Cancer Society/Fox Valley Chapter during the Relay For Life opening ceremonies June 24 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.

The donation was collected through their largest fundraiser of the year, the 17th annual Kick-A-Thon, which took place Oct. 22.

Due to the combined efforts of both teams, the 2010 Kick-A-Thon raised more than $69,000. This donation is divided between the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva and the American Cancer Society.

The girls raised money by collecting at various locations around the community, selling stickers and T-shirts, as well as by receiving generous donations from sponsors, family and friends. The teams raised more than $500,000 over the past 17 years.

The 18th annual Kick-A-Thon will be held Oct. 21 during the St. Charles East/St. Charles North football game at Norris Stadium in St. Charles.
