Advocate Condell plays key role in substantial increase in charitable care

Advocate Condell Medical Center played an important role in Advocate Health Care's $474 million contribution in charitable care and services during 2010. This contribution represents more than 1 million lives touched in the communities served by Advocate Health Care throughout Chicagoland and Central Illinois.

“These community benefits illustrate Advocate's healing mission and commitment to meeting the needs of the patients and communities we are so privileged to serve,” said Jim Skogsbergh, president and CEO of Advocate Health Care.

Advocate provided $62.1 million in free and discounted charity care for the uninsured and underinsured, and supplied more than $239 million in care without full reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid or other government-sponsored programs. In 2010, these benefits alone totaled $301 million in health care service costs.

In addition to free and subsidized health care, Advocate Condell in partnership with Advocate Health Care offered programs and services that responded to our communities' unique needs. Some of these programs included diabetes and prostate screenings, as well as education on stroke, chest pain and medication safety.

Advocate also made significant investments in language-assistance programs, which offer our patients access to interpreters and other non-English patient education materials.

Contributions to other not-for-profit community organizations, as well as equipment, supplies and clinic space donations totaled $5.6 million. Advocate also increased its provision of medical education and training by more than $4 million. As part of its annual Community Benefits Report, a detailed breakdown of Advocate's contributions was recently filed with the State.
