Hawks happy with finding centers

Lost amid Friday’s trade spree by Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman was the drafting of two promising centers in Prince Albert’s Mark McNeill and Victoriaville’s Phillipe Danault.#147;It#146;s always the most difficult position to find,#148; Bowman said. #147;We#146;ve added two really important parts to our future in terms of centers who are smart and can play both ways.#147;Mark McNeill is a very physically developed player for 18 years old. He plays a two-way game, he can score, he can fight, he#146;s physical and can play the defensive side of the puck. He#146;s a leader and the kind of kid you#146;re looking for.#148;The Hawks completed the draft Saturday by taking nine more players, including Boston University defenseman Adam Clendening and left wing Brandon Saad in the second round.Saad could be a sleeper pick as many scouts had him projected to be a first-round selection. Saad is 6-feet-1, 208 pounds and considered a physical presence on the ice.#147;He#146;s a horse,#148; one scout told the Hockey News. #147;He#146;s man-strong and he#146;s smart.#148;In the fifth round the Hawks took Owen Sound center Andrew Shaw, a shift disturber who racked up 135 penalty minutes in 66 games in the Ontario League and was plus-17 with 22 goals.
