Mt. Prospect concert series debuts Friday

Mount Prospect is trying out a new tradition, and Friday, June 24 will feature the first “Friday on the Green.”

Diving for Dynamite will be the first band in the series. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. and will be on the Village Green in front of village hall, 50 S. Emerson Street.

“We will be working throughout the year to create events like this to bring people to downtown Mount Prospect. We have so much to offer — we want to bring people together and remind them of all the great businesses we have in our town,” said one of the event organizers, Dawn Fletcher Collins of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.

Diving for Dynamite (D4D) featuring Ted Ansani of Material Issue and Brian Sheridan of Disney’s Ralph’s World, has played at other Mount Prospect venues like Blues Bar and Bogie’s. D4D incorporates songs from Cheap Trick, Blink 182, Lenny Kravitz, Green Day, and many more covering music from the ’60s to right now.

“We have noticed many of our neighbors having similar events, and thought our residents would really appreciate an evening of entertainment. We know that people really miss the Blues Fest, which was canceled this year due to budget reasons,” said Maura El Metennani, the village’s public information officer.

“The purpose of the Downtown Merchants Association is to bring people into the downtown to eat, shop and have fun. The Friday events are a great way to do it — it’s Friday, it’s fun, and it’s free,” said Katie Dolan Dix, Downtown Merchants Association president and owner of Capannari Ice Cream.

The Friday events are a partnership between the Village of Mount Prospect, Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Prospect Downtown Merchants Association. Concert goers are asked to bring a blanket or chair for seating on the green.

Sponsorship opportunities for the Friday events are available. Call (847) 818-5308. For details about this and other events, visit www.experiencemountprospect.org.
