Don’t be duped again, Mr. President

Mr. President, unfortunately your blind faith in dealing with the opposing party in the House and Senate has cost the American public the chance for a meaningful economic recovery in the near future.

You see, Mr. President, the deal you thought you were making by extending the Bush tax cuts and getting your budget passed was really just a sham. Now they will hold you and the American public hostage again to get something to save shutting down the government over the debt ceiling.

The irony of it all is: Where are the jobs that they said would be developed by giving the wealthy the tax cuts? Unemployment is back up to 9.1 percent, and the millionaires got a $100,000 pay increase this year. Food and energy prices are stifling the recovery by reducing discretionary spending. We will not consume what is being produced if no one has the money to spend. That is what drives the economy — consumption. Had that money been distributed to people who would have spent it, the economy would improve.

Now, Mr. President, since the only way you can be defeated in 2012 by the Republicans is a failure on your part to get the economy and jobs right, you will find no support from Big Business, which is still sitting on several trillion dollars in cash waiting for a Republican-controlled Washington to get what they want.

I urge you to put the finger pointing back the other way and put the onus on the opposition. The American public cannot survive another economic recessionary dip until the 2012 election has come and gone.
