Rotary grant benefits township food pantry

Schaumburg AM Rotary recently obtained a District 6440 Simplified Grant (DSG) that was used to benefit the Schaumburg Twp. Food Pantry. The grant money was applied towards a club service project that included the purchase and delivery of approximately $2,000 worth of food, paper products and other essentials by its members. Vibha Tambe, Community Service Director, applied for the grant on the club's behalf and coordinated the purchase with the Hoffman Estates Aldi store located at 375 West Higgins Road.

Rotarians personally contribute to the club's food pantry fund and periodically shop to stock the shelves based upon need. For an individual Rotary Club project to qualify for a DSG, the project must be short term in duration and benefit the local community by being either humanitarian or educational in nature, take place within the club's service area and include hands-on participation by its members. District 6440 matched the club's $1,000 contribution to the cause dollar for dollar, making it possible for this community based food pantry to continue its mission of providing assistance to local families and households.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary meets Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. at Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates. Rotarians participate in community service projects both at home and abroad and work to promote good will, peace and understanding. Visit www.schaumburgamrotary.org for more information.
