Appoint Walsh to state seat
I call upon Lake County GOP Chairman Bob Cook to consider appointing 8th Dist. U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh to fill the 52nd Illinois House seat left vacant by the sad and tragic death of Mark Beaubien.
In a blatantly partisan and very secretive manner, Mike Madigan and the Democrats in Springfield completely redrew the political map in Illinois for the state House, Senate, and Congressional districts. In terms of what happened to Joe Walsh’s district, the only appropriate description would be to call it a political vivisection. He is effectively a man without a district.
Due in no small part to high taxation and a poor business climate, Illinois lost a congressional seat due to loss in population. This lost congressional district in Illinois was utilized by the Democrats to specifically target GOP representatives north of Chicago. As it stands, the Democrats have forced elected politicians to face each other in what will be bloody and costly primary battles.
It is said “he who laughs last, laughs best.” If Cook were to appoint Walsh to the vacant 52nd House seat, the last laugh will be with the GOP side of the aisle, as collectively they could then focus on winning general elections, not internal strife.
Appointing Walsh and convincing him to accept the House seat would allow him to continue to serve those who elected him and would remove countless political obstacles Mike Madigan intended to throw into the GOP works in Chicagoland.
I urge Chairman Cook to consider this concept and to meet with Congressman Walsh with due haste to discuss its merits and logic.
