Advocate Condell Medical Center marks one year of 24-7 spiritual services

Whether it's comforting a family dealing with the effects of a traumatic accident or counseling those struggling with life and death decisions, hospital chaplains are the voice of calm and spiritual support during life's most critical moments.

This June marks the first year of round the clock spiritual care at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Four full-time interfaith chaplains minister to hundreds of patients, families and staff members each month. The service is in keeping with the tradition of Advocate Health Care as a faith-based organization.

“The spiritual support provided by our chaplains is a critical part of the healing process,” said Vice President, Mission and Spiritual Care, Rev. Fred Rajan. “Their ministry is a vital part of the care of the body, mind and soul of patients, families and staff.”

Chaplains provide a comforting role in the patient's healing process. They also provide spiritual support for families, associates, physicians and volunteers. Whether through prayer, helping a family complete a Power of Attorney for Health Care or simply being present with a person, Advocate Condell's hospital chaplains respect each person's unique cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.

The chaplaincy staff is directed by Rev. Rajan. The staff includes, Chaplain Patrick Ames, Manager, Rev. Fran Bates, Chaplain Jessica Harren, and Rev. Scott Barron.
