LITH woman gets prison term for 6th DUI

A 56-year-old Lake in the Hills woman was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday by a McHenry County judge after pleading guilty to her fifth and sixth driving under the influence offenses.

Judge Joseph P. Condon actually sentenced Margaret M. Osborne to six years for each of the aggravated DUI charges, but the sentences will be served at the same time.

Osborne, who will be on probation for two years after her release, can have her sentenced halved for good behavior behind bars.

Assistant State's Attorney Sharyl Eisenstein said Osborne was pulled over on Aug. 5 on Randall Road near the Algonquin Commons shopping center in Algonquin.

Eisenstein said Osborne was in the wrong lane of traffic trying to inch forward into the intersection while the light was red. She had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.317 percent, nearly four times the legal threshold of 0.08 percent.

On Aug. 14, Osborne was found sleeping in her vehicle in the 100 block of South Randall Road and tests later showed her blood alcohol content was 0.375, close to five times the limit, Eisenstein said.

When an officer asked Osborne for her license, she gave the officer light bulbs, Eisenstein said.

“She wasn't making sense. She was slipping in and out of consciousness,” Eisenstein said.

Osborne's sentence also allows her to receive drug and alcohol treatment while in prison.

Osborne also was fined $2,032.
