Tryon will run for re-election
After four terms in Springfield representing exclusively McHenry County and 16 years on the board there, state Rep. Mike Tryon says he’ll run for re-election to the Illinois House in a district that includes parts of northern Kane County.
“I love what I do,” Tryon said.
The Crystal Lake Republican is among the first state lawmakers to declare their intentions under the new political map drawn by Democrats. Candidates don’t have to file until the fall, and no clear Democrat opponent has stepped up to challenge Tryon yet.
He said he had considered running for the new Senate district he lives in, where there isn’t currently an incumbent, but ultimately decided to try to stay in the House.
“I’ve made my decision,” Tryon said. “I don’t want anyone to think I haven’t.”
Tryon often works on transit issues in Springfield.
And earlier this year, when Democratic state lawmakers from Wisconsin and Indiana fled their home states for Illinois to avoid various budget votes, Tryon stood up on the House floor and suggested the out-of-staters’ income be taxed for the time they were here.
