Vacancy on Algonquin-LITH fire board
A trustee for the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District resigned recently, and interested residents have until July 1 to apply to fill the vacant seat.
Trustee Barbara Read, who was elected in April 2009, resigned via email May 31.
Board President Virgil “Corky” Corless said Read’s full-time job requires her to work six days a week, and she also had other obligations. “Something had to give,” he said.
The five-member board meets twice a month, and the four remaining board members have 60 days from Read’s resignation to replace her, Corless said.
The board’s primary duty is to oversee the finances of the fire protection district, whose current budget is balanced at just more than $10 million, Corless said. The board also approves the hiring of contract employees, and is involved in labor negotiations for union employees.
“The biggest asset that a person could bring to the table would be a finance or human resources background,” he said. “Also a good business background.”
The new appointment will last through April 2013, when the term will be up for election for a two-year term. The other board members are Warren Olsen, John Bradach and Mike Markowitz.
Applicants must be registered voters and live within the district. For details, call (847) 658-8233.
