Winston Campus Jr. High PE earns Blue Ribbon
The Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD) has awarded its 2011 Blue Ribbon Program Award for outstanding physical education programs to Winston Campus Junior High.
IAHPERD's Blue Ribbon Recognition Program is a voluntary program that recognizes excellent physical education and health programs at public, parochial, and alternative schools throughout the state. IAHPERD's evaluative criteria reflect the standards established by the Health and Physical Education profession and the Illinois State Board of Education. The criteria cover the areas of curriculum, instruction, enrichment, facilities and equipment, finance, medical and safety, and administration.
For earning this honor, Winston Campus Junior High will be awarded a banner and plaque at IAHPERD's convention in November, and the following description of the school's physical education program will be featured in the Illinois Journal for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance:
"Winston Campus Physical Education prides itself in offering each student an opportunity to succeed. Our curriculum offers diverse experiences in both individual and team sports, not to mention team building, fitness, weight training, and other various activities. The physical education staff at Winston Campus works hard to involve administrators and teachers, as well as the surrounding community, by organizing/assisting with all-school celebrations and fundraisers. We believe all students should receive an education which provides them with a safe environment to learn, acceptance of differences, and countless ways to improve one's self. Daily meetings and a shared office space drive the success of our program. We have been working together for six years and it shows!"
