Search leads to suspected drug lab in Mount Prospect
Police say they found a clandestine laboratory in the basement of a Mount Prospect home Saturday and seized a commercial pharmaceutical pill press machine covered in an unknown white powder, 122 grams of marijuana and packaging material.
Kevin Carney, 33, of the 400 block of South Main Street, faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis stemming from the discovery, according to a Mount Prospect police news release.
Carney was arrested about 3:15 p.m. Friday on allegations he possessed 195 grams of suspected morphine, police said. Further investigation led police to believe Carney may have been involved in other drug activity, including a clandestine laboratory in his home, the news release states.
After obtaining a search warrant for Carney’s home, officers Saturday discovered the press machine and cannabis, police said. The home was secured due to potential health hazards and police sought assistance from experts in hazardous material collection and disposal, the news release said.
Carney’s bond was set at $60,000. He will appear in court on June 21.
