Palatine launches summer reading program
Become a royal reader in this year’s Palatine Public Library District Summer Reading Program.
District residents ages 2 through adult are invited to take part in this regal round-table of reading, fun and prizes. Participants who complete the program will receive a T-shirt, compliments of the Friends of the Palatine Library.
Each spring, Barb Zaldivar, Elementary Learning Resource Center director at Winston Campus, strongly encourages her students to find their way to the Palatine Library, 700 N. North Court, or to one of its branches within the Palatine Opportunity Center at 1585 Rand Road and at 1262 Freeman Road, in Hoffman Estates, to enroll and actively participate in the library’s annual summer reading program.
“Children who continue to read during the summer discover subjects or literary genres that interest them and in that way, keep up their reading skills when they are not in school,” Zaldivar explained.
In fact, she is such a proponent of the program that she takes group photos of the students who earn a T-shirt for completing the summer reading program and posts a montage of those photos around the school.
New this year, sign up for the program is online. Staff members are available to help with sign up or as you track your progress online. All participants will need to have their own Palatine Library card to logon. Visit palatinelibrary.org anytime to sign up, manage your reading progress, and share book reviews.
Check to be sure your library card has not expired and has less than $5 in fines and fees. A quick stop at the circulation desk can tell you if your card is valid.
Palatine Public Library District serves some 90,000 residents predominantly within the communities of Palatine and Hoffman Estates.
The mission of the library is to encourage lifelong learning and enrichment through the exploration of books and other media and to provide services and materials which will promote a well-informed and literate community.
