Elburn considering outdoor liquor service
Elburn is considering letting restaurants and taverns serve alcohol outdoors.
The village board, meeting as a committee of the whole, will discuss the proposed change at a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, at the village hall, 301 E. North St.
The licensees would have to pay an extra $500 a year for the outdoor privilege.
The proposal would allow up to five outdoor licenses, at restaurants, clubs and golf courses.
The sales could take place in a tent, or in an area cordoned off by a fence 4 to 6 feet high.
Sales would be cut off at 1 a.m. Monday through Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Any amplified music or other entertainment would have to shut down at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
A downtown bar, Schmidt’s Towne Tap, is seeking a lot resubdivision to allow it to have a beer garden. The tavern is on one lot, and it owns a vacant lot next door.
