Wheaton’s Manchester bridge opens
Commuters in Wheaton can now use the new Manchester Road/Wesley Street bridge after it opened to traffic Friday afternoon.
The bridge spans the Union Pacific railroad tracks and provides another option through downtown.
In what city officials called a “much needed construction project,” crews demolished and replaced the old bridge and retaining wall along Manchester Road.
Additionally, they reconstructed the Illinois Prairie Path pedestrian bridge, just east of the roadway. A new stoplight also was installed.
