Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy hold 4th Annual Walk and Roll June 12
The Illinois chapter of Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA) is sponsoring its 4th Annual Walk and Roll on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve (North Pavilion) in Libertyville. On-site registration begins at 8:30 am and the 2.4 mile walk/roll starts at 10:30 am. Registration is also available online at www.fsma.org. This is a family friendly event that includes entertainment, refreshments, and a raffle for items that have been donated by local sponsors. All proceeds go directly to the national nonprofit organization FSMA, which consists of 30 chapters throughout the US to support research into treatments and a cure for this currently incurable disease. SMA is an inherited disease of the nerves that control voluntary muscles used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, and swallowing. This is a relatively common “rare” disorder that affects 1/6000 babies born; approximately 1/40 people are genetic carriers. More information is available at www.curesma.org. Please join us in this fun event and help us in the fight to cure SMA.
